Patient Education

At the Texas Liver Institute, we believe that treatment is only one aspect of healthcare. We’re in the business of making sure you get healthy and stay healthy. In our Patient Education area, you’ll find a wealth of information on liver health and wellness. From plain talk about liver conditions to regimens aimed at improving internal wellness, we have your bases covered.

Your liver is like your body’s chemical processing plant. One of its many jobs is to filter or break down anything you take into your body. When the liver is damaged, the body is unable to remove toxins, especially ammonia.  Increased levels of ammonia can cause disorientation, confusion, fatigue and in extreme cases coma and even death. For this reason, you may need to avoid alcohol and certain medications, herbs, supplements, and foods.
A healthy lifestyle doesn’t begin and end at the gym. Internal health can be as important to quality of life as physical fitness.
